SeniorMatch
Best for: safety-conscious women who want a serious relationship
SeniorMatch has been operating since 2003 and accepts only members aged 40 and above — in practice, the active membership is predominantly 50 and older. Of all the platforms we assessed, it has the most robust safety features and the clearest focus on serious relationships. It is the platform we would suggest to most women starting out.
What it does well
- Live video verification. New members submit a short video that is reviewed manually to confirm their face matches their profile photos. No other senior dating platform we tested does this.
- Age-appropriate membership. The minimum age is 40 and enforced. Younger people cannot join the way they can sneak onto OurTime.
- Free browsing. You can look through profiles before paying anything. No credit card required to start.
- Reasonable pricing. At $15.99/month on a six-month plan, it is cheaper than SilverSingles and substantially cheaper than eHarmony.
- Community features. Forums, member blogs, and local event listings give you ways to engage beyond just messaging.
What it does not do well
- Smaller member base than OurTime. SeniorMatch draws around 800,000 monthly visitors versus OurTime's 9 million. In rural areas, you may find fewer local matches.
- iOS app costs more. Subscribing through the iPhone app costs about $5 more per month due to App Store fees. Use the website instead.
- No personality matching. Unlike SilverSingles, SeniorMatch does not use a compatibility test. You browse and decide yourself.
Pricing
Prices shown are for website subscriptions. App Store pricing is approximately $5/month higher. Subscribe via the website to get the best rate. Auto-renews on 1-month plan only.
SeniorMatch is a good fit if you…
- Want the safest, most verified platform available
- Are looking for a serious relationship, not casual contact
- Want to browse before committing any money
- Are in or near a city with an active member base
SeniorMatch may not be right if you…
- Are in a rural area where the member base is thin
- Want personality-based matching rather than browsing
- Are only looking for casual companionship or friendship

SilverSingles
Best for: women who want compatibility matching based on personality
SilverSingles uses a five-factor personality questionnaire to generate compatibility matches — similar to what eHarmony does, but designed for the 50+ age group. Around 80% of members are 50 or older. The platform has real strengths, but it also has more user complaints than most senior dating sites, which is worth knowing before you sign up.
What it does well
- Personality-based matching. If you find browsing overwhelming, SilverSingles narrows things down for you based on a detailed personality assessment.
- Strong free membership. The free version lets you complete the personality test and see blurred match previews — more functional than most platforms offer for free.
- Genuinely senior-focused. At 80% members over 50, you are unlikely to encounter many younger people on the platform.
What it does not do well
- User reviews are notably poor. SilverSingles holds a 1.2-star rating on Consumer Affairs — lower than any other senior platform we reviewed. Common complaints include poor match quality and difficulty cancelling subscriptions.
- More women than men. With a 59% female to 41% male member split, women face slightly more competition for attention from men on this platform.
- Match distance issues. Many users report receiving matches far outside their preferred location, particularly in less populated areas.
- Small member base. Around 800,000 monthly visitors — similar to SeniorMatch, but much smaller than OurTime.
Pricing
The 1-month rate of $54.99 is high compared to other platforms. If you try SilverSingles, the 3-month plan is the more reasonable starting point.
SilverSingles is a good fit if you…
- Want the platform to suggest matches rather than browse yourself
- Are comfortable committing to at least 3 months
- Live in or near a major city with larger member numbers
- Want to take the personality test before paying anything
SilverSingles may not be right if you…
- Are in a rural or less populated area
- Are sensitive to poor customer service experiences
- Want a large, active member pool
- Only want to commit to one month to start
OurTime
Best for: women who want a free starting point with a large member base
OurTime is part of the Match Group — the same company behind Match.com and Tinder. It has the largest member base of the senior-focused platforms, with around 9 million monthly logins. It is also the most affordable option for longer commitments. The trade-off is looser age verification and somewhat less rigorous safety features than SeniorMatch.
What it does well
- Largest member base. At roughly 9 million monthly logins, you are more likely to find local matches on OurTime than on any other senior-focused platform — especially outside major cities.
- Affordable on longer plans. At $12.99/month on a 12-month plan, OurTime is the cheapest of the four platforms reviewed here.
- AARP partnership. AARP members can access discounts on OurTime subscriptions — worth checking if you are a member.
- ConnectMe feature. Lets you call matches through the app without sharing your real phone number — a useful privacy feature.
What it does not do well
- Age verification is looser. Unlike SeniorMatch, OurTime does not strictly enforce its 50+ focus. Younger members can and do join, which undermines the senior-community feel.
- More upsells than SilverSingles. The base subscription is affordable but OurTime prompts you to buy additional paid features — super likes, boosts, and so on.
- User reviews are mixed. OurTime holds a 1.6-star rating on Consumer Affairs — better than SilverSingles but still below average. Complaints include irrelevant matches and account issues.
- No 1-month subscription. The shortest plan is 3 months — you cannot try OurTime for a single month the way you can SeniorMatch.
Pricing
AARP members may be eligible for a discount — check the AARP website for current offers.
OurTime is a good fit if you…
- Live outside a major city and need a larger local pool
- Are an AARP member who can access discounts
- Want the lowest possible long-term cost
- Are comfortable filtering out some younger members yourself
OurTime may not be right if you…
- Want strict age enforcement and a 50+-only feel
- Prefer to try a platform for one month before committing longer
- Are put off by upsell prompts inside the app
- Want the strongest possible safety verification
eHarmony
Best for: women who want the most thorough compatibility assessment — and don't mind the cost
eHarmony is not a senior-specific platform, but it has a significant number of users over 50 and is one of the most established names in online dating. Its compatibility questionnaire is the most detailed of any platform we reviewed. The main drawbacks are cost — it is the most expensive option — and an interface that some users find complex.
What it does well
- Deepest compatibility matching. The initial questionnaire is long and detailed. eHarmony's matching system is built around long-term relationship compatibility — not just proximity or photos.
- Large overall member base. eHarmony has over 5 million app downloads and more members than any senior-specific platform. This helps in rural areas where 50+-only sites may have few local profiles.
- Long track record. eHarmony has been operating since 2000 and has a documented record of long-term relationship outcomes.
What it does not do well
- The most expensive option. At approximately $35–$65 per month depending on the plan, eHarmony costs significantly more than the senior-specific platforms.
- Not built for seniors. eHarmony serves all ages, which means the interface, culture, and features are not tailored to women over 50. Only about 7% of members are 55 and older.
- Complex to navigate. Multiple users in our research described eHarmony as harder to figure out than senior-specific platforms.
Pricing (approximate)
eHarmony pricing varies with promotions and changes frequently. Check the site directly for current pricing before committing.
eHarmony is a good fit if you…
- Want the most thorough compatibility-based matching available
- Are in a rural area where senior-specific platforms have few local members
- Are comfortable paying more for a well-established platform
- Have some experience with online dating already
eHarmony may not be right if you…
- Are new to online dating and want a simpler interface
- Want to be in a community exclusively for women over 50
- Are on a budget
- Want to try before committing to a significant cost
How we evaluated these platforms
Each platform was assessed against the same four criteria, weighted for relevance to women over 50.
Safety & verification
How rigorously does the platform verify that profiles are genuine? What tools exist to report and remove suspicious accounts? How actively is the platform moderated?
Ease of use for 50+
How simple is the sign-up process? Is the interface clear and uncluttered? Does it require any prior experience with dating apps to navigate effectively?
Membership quality
What percentage of members are actually 50 and older? Does the platform attract people looking for serious relationships, or is the intent less clear?
Pricing transparency
Are the subscription costs clearly presented? Are there hidden upsells? Is it easy to cancel? Do the plans represent reasonable value?

Questions about these platforms
It depends on what you are looking for. For most women starting out, we suggest SeniorMatch — it has the best safety features, a serious membership, and a free browsing option. If you are in a rural area with few local matches, OurTime's larger member base may serve you better. If you want personality-based matching and are comfortable committing to at least three months, SilverSingles is worth considering despite its mixed reviews.
On a three-month plan — which is enough to know whether a platform is working for you — expect to spend roughly $60–$105, depending on the platform. SeniorMatch's three-month plan is $59.95. SilverSingles costs $104.97. OurTime costs $74.97. A six-month commitment reduces the per-month cost significantly on all platforms.
Yes — there is no rule against it. Some women use two platforms simultaneously to see which feels better. That said, managing two at once can become overwhelming, and active engagement on one platform tends to produce better results than passive membership on two. We'd suggest starting with one and giving it a genuine three-month effort before deciding whether to add another.
All four platforms have safety measures in place, but none can guarantee a scam-free experience. SeniorMatch has the most robust verification process — live video confirmation — which makes fake profiles harder to create. On any platform, the most reliable protection is knowing the warning signs of romance scams. Our safety guide covers this in detail.
Online dating platforms are not the only way to meet people. Local singles events, community activities, volunteering, and social groups are all legitimate alternatives. Some women find a combination works best — using a platform alongside in-person social activities gives you more chances and more variety. Our dating guides cover both approaches.
